Solution :
Let assume that the merchant sold X kg sugar at profit of 8%.
Profit on selling X kg sugar at 8% profit :
⇒ ( X × 8 ) / 100
Profit on selling rest amount of sugar at 18% profit :
⇒ [ ( 500 - X ) × 18 ] ÷ 100
Profit on selling the total amount of sugar :
⇒ ( 500 × 14 ) / 100
Now Equating all the profits to total profit :
⇒ (X × 8) / 100 + [ (500 - X) × 18 ] / 100 = (500 × 14) / 100
⇒ 8X + 9000 - 18X = 7000
⇒ 10X = 2000
⇒ X = 200 Kg
Hence the correct answer is "200 Kg".
