Sometimes the children of gifted parents are born with less intelligence than their parents or vice versa, which Law of Heredity is called?

Heredity is the sum total of the traits potentially present in the fertilized ovum. All the qualities that a child has inherited from the parents are called heredity. According to Douglas and Holland  “Heredity consists of all the structures, physical characteristics, functions or capacities derived from parents and other ancestors”.

• The law of Regression tells heavily against the full heredity transmission of any gift. 
• Average parents tend to produce average offspring, but children of extreme parents inherit parental peculiarities to a lesser degree than they appear in their parents.
• The probability of the occurrence of greatly gifted children is vastly higher when the fathers are of superior intelligence.
• It is not compulsory that a child of gifted parents will inherit all their powers and a child of mentally retarded parents will inherit all their weaknesses.

Thus, it is concluded that the above-mentioned law of heredity is known as the Law of Regression.
