Question
Download Solution PDFThe radii of two cylinders are in the ratio 1 ∶ 4 and their heights are in the ratio 4 ∶ 3. Their volumes will be in the ratio ______.
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Ratio of radii of two cylinders = 1 : 4
Ratio of height of two cylinders = 4 : 3
Formula Used:
Volume of cylinder = πr2h [where r = radius of base and h = height]
Calculation:
Let the radii of two cylinders be x and 4x and their heights be 4y and 3y
Volume of 1st cylinder : Volume of 2nd cylinder = πx2 × 4y : π(4x)2 × 3y
⇒ 4x2y : 48x2y
⇒ 1 : 12
∴ Their volumes will be in the ratio of 1 : 12.
