Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven
ratio of the present ages of A and B is 6 : 5
ratio of 4 years ago ages of A and B = 5 ∶ 4
Calculation
Let the present age of A = 6x
and the present age of B = 5x
Age of A four years ago = 6x - 4
Age of B four years ago = 5x - 4
According to question
(6x - 4)/(5x - 4) = 5/4
⇒ 4(6x - 4) = 5(5x - 4)
⇒ 24x - 16 = 25x - 20
⇒ x = 4
Present age of A = 6 × 4
⇒ 24
Present age of B = 5 × 4
⇒ 20
Age of A after 10 years = 24 + 10
⇒ 34 years
Age of B after 10 years = 20 + 10
⇒ 30 years
Ratio of age of A and B after 10 years = 34 ∶ 30
⇒ 17 ∶ 15
∴ The ratio of the ages of A and B after ten years is 17 ∶ 15
