Question
Download Solution PDFThe speed of a boat in still water is 18 km/hr. If the speed of stream is 4 km/hr, then how much time will it take to cover a distance of 44 km in downstream?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Speed of a boat in still water = 18 km/hr
Speed of stream = 4 km/hr
Distance = 44 km
Formula used:
Speed of downstream = (u + v)
Time = Distance/Speed
Where u = The speed of a boat still water,
v = The speed of the stream
Calculation:
Speed of downstream = (u + v)
⇒ Speed of downstream = (18 + 4) = 22 km/hr
Time taken to travel 44 km downstream = Distance/Speed
⇒ 44/22
⇒ 2 hours
∴ Time taken to travel 44 km downstream is 2 hours.
