Types of Turnout:
1. Single turnout:
- Simple turnouts consist of a straight main track and a curved branch track.
- Looking toward the end of the turnout, a distinction is made depending on the direction of the junction between simple turnout left and simple turn out right.
- If the radius of the diverging line ends in front of the crossing, it is referred to as a turnout with a straight crossing.
- Simple turnouts generally have no super-elevation.
2. Split turnout:
- A straight track diverges symmetrically in two directions to the left and right sides.
- Makes one turn-out rail and one main rail line movable.
- It gives lateral rigidity to the turnout.
- The highest-speed train can move easily.
- A straight track diverges asymmetrically in two directions to the left and right sides is called an unsymmetrical split turnout.
3. Double-curve turnout in the same direction:
- Another track from a curved track diverges toward the inside of the curved track.
4. Double-curve turnout in opposite direction:
- Another track from a curved track diverges toward the outside of the curved track.
5. Run-over type turnout:
- A straight or curved main line runs over the rails and diverges. This type of turnout is usually used to divert train carriages to the safe side of the track to prevent them from running onto the main line.
6. Diamond Crossing:
- Two tracks intersect in a diamond-like pattern.
7. Crossover:
- In this track structure, two side-by-side tracks are connected using two turnouts.
