Concept:

When a capacitor is connected to an AC source, alternating voltage charges and discharges the capacitor.

The rate of charging and discharging of the capacitor depends upon the frequency of the AC supply.

RMS values is the root mean square of instantaneous current values. RMS values of AC is greater than the average value.

Calculation:

Frequency, f = 100π

Voltage, V = 200 V

Capacitance, c = 40 × 10-6 F

ω = 2πf = 100π 

 rms value of the current in the circuit ,irms = cω εrms

εrms = 200 V

∴ irms = 200 × 40 × 10-6 × 2π × 50

= 2.5 A
