The Bhagavad Gita is the best known and most famous of Hindu texts, with a unique pan-Hindu influence. The Gita's call for selfless action inspired many leaders of the Indian independence movement including Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi referred to the Gita as his "spiritual dictionary".Important Points

There are 18 chapters in the Bhagavad Gita which are divided into three sections of six chapters.

  • Chapters 1-6 describe the living entity as a non-material, eternal spirit soul capable of elevating himself to self-realization by different types of yoga, the highest form of which is Krishna Consciousness (bhakti yoga), as confirmed by the final verse of the sixth chapter.
  • In the middle six chapters, the Supreme Personality of Godhead and His different energies and opulence are described. This section especially deals with the relationship between the Supreme Soul and the individual soul in regards to devotional service. Krishna also discusses the nature and activities of such pure devotional service which he confirms to be the best process of self-realization.
  • In the third six chapters, how the living entity comes into contact with material nature, how he is entangled, and how he is delivered by the Supreme Lord through different methods of fruitive activities (karma), cultivation of knowledge (jnana), and devotional service (bhakti) are all explained.
  • The Gita is told in the form of a dialogue between Pandava prince Arjuna and Krishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu who serves as his adviser and charioteer.
  • Arjuna is burdened with moral conflict and sorrow at the onset of the Dharma Yuddha (righteous war) between the Pandavas and the Kauravas because of the brutality and death that the war would bring in the struggle against his people.

Hence option 2 is correct.
