Download Solution PDFExplanation:
As per IS 383, Table 4(Clause 4.3)
- There are 4 types of grading zones for fine aggregates(sand) namely Grading Zones I, II, III, IV.
- All grading zones and their recommended value for different sieve sizes are given below:
ZONE | PERCENTAGE |
zone I | 15% to 34% |
zone II | 34% to 59% |
zone III | 60% to 79% |
zone IV | 80% to 100% |
- The grading or size distribution of aggregate is an important characteristic because it determines the paste requirement for workable concrete.
Zones | Zone I | Zone II | Zone III | Zone IV |
Purpose | Concreting | Concreting | Plastering | Rejected |
- The lower zone indicates fine sand and the higher zone indicates courser sand.
- Zone I corresponds to coarse sand and zone II corresponds to normal SAND.
