Download Solution PDFGiven:
A man drives his car at a speed of 50 km/hr for 2 hours.
Then decides to slow down to 40 km/hr till the end of the journey.
His average speed for the journey was 44 km/hr,
Concept used:
Distance = speed × time
Calculation:
Let he drives x hr at a speed of 40 km/hr.
In, 1st hours he covers 50 × 2 = 100 km
So next x hours he covers 40 × x = 40x km
Total distance he covered = (40x + 100) km
As per the question,
40x + 100 = (x + 2) × 44
⇒ 44x - 40x = 100 - 88
⇒ 4x = 12
⇒ x = 3 hr
∴ He drives his car at a speed 40 km / hr for 3 hrs
