Question
Download Solution PDFA two-dimensional water jet strikes a fixed two-dimensional plate at 30° to the normal to the plate. This causes the jet to split into two streams in which the ratio of larger discharge to smaller discharge is
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFConcept:
When water jet strikes to a fixed plate inclined, then jet will split in two streams carrying unequal discharges and it is given as
\({Q_1} = \frac{{Q\left( {1 + cosθ } \right)}}{2}\)
\({Q_2} = \frac{{Q\left( {1 - cosθ } \right)}}{2}\)
Where,
Q is the flow at water is striking to plate
θ is the angle made by jet with with the plate
Calculation:
Given:
Jet strikes at 30° to the normal to the plate
⇒ θ (angle made by jet with the plate) = 90°- 30°
⇒ θ = 60°
Now
\(\frac{{{Q_1}}}{{{Q_2}}} = \frac{{\left( {1 + cos\theta } \right)}}{{\left( {1 - cos\theta } \right)}}\)
\(\frac{{{Q_1}}}{{{Q_2}}} = \frac{{\left( {1 + cos60^\circ } \right)}}{{\left( {1 - cos60^\circ } \right)}}\)
\(\frac{{{Q_1}}}{{{Q_2}}} = 3\)
