Concept:

When water jet strikes to a fixed plate inclined, then jet will split in two streams carrying unequal discharges and it is given as

5f324d1a4751fe0d190f859b 16376844136221

\({Q_1} = \frac{{Q\left( {1 + cosθ } \right)}}{2}\)

\({Q_2} = \frac{{Q\left( {1 - cosθ } \right)}}{2}\)

Where,

Q is the flow at water is striking to plate

θ is the angle made by jet with with the plate

Calculation:

Given:

Jet strikes at 30° to the normal to the plate

⇒ θ (angle made by jet with the plate) = 90°- 30°

⇒ θ = 60°

Now

\(\frac{{{Q_1}}}{{{Q_2}}} = \frac{{\left( {1 + cos\theta } \right)}}{{\left( {1 - cos\theta } \right)}}\)

\(\frac{{{Q_1}}}{{{Q_2}}} = \frac{{\left( {1 + cos60^\circ } \right)}}{{\left( {1 - cos60^\circ } \right)}}\)

\(\frac{{{Q_1}}}{{{Q_2}}} = 3\)
