Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven Data:
Votes secured by B = 16,200
Percentage of votes by which B defeated A = 8%
Concept:
The total number of votes can be calculated considering that B won by 8% of total votes. Then, the votes that A received can be derived, and the difference between votes of A and B can be calculated.
Calculation:
Total number of votes be 100%
⇒ Votes secured by A be x%
⇒ Votes secured by B be (x + 8)%
According to question
⇒ Total votes = x + x + 8 = 100
⇒ 2x = 92
⇒ x = 46%
⇒ x + 8 = 54%
Votes secured by B be (x + 8)% = 54% = 16200
⇒ 1 % = 300
⇒ 8% = 2400
⇒ Difference between votes of A and B = Votes secured by B - Votes secured by A = 8% = 2400
Therefore, the difference in votes between A and B is 2400 votes.
