Question
Download Solution PDFRakesh covers a distance in two equal halves. He covers the first half of the distance with his original speed and increases his speed by 60% for the second half. He covers the complete distance in 39 minutes. Find the total distance travelled by him if the speed in the first half was 15 m/s.
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Speed in the first half (v1) = 15 m/s
Speed in the second half (v2) = 1.6 × 15 m/s = 24 m/s
Total time (T) = 39 minutes = 2340 seconds
Concept Used:
Average speed = 2s1s2/(s1 + s2)
Calculation:
Average speed = 2s1s2/(s1 + s2)
Average speed = 2 × 15 × 24/(15 + 24) = 720/39 m/s
Total distance = Average speed × time taken
Total distance = 720/39 × 2340 = 43200 m = 43.2 km
∴ Rakesh travelled a total distance of 43.2 km.
