• Solar Photovoltaic (PV) cells generate electricity by absorbing sunlight and using that light energy to create an electrical current. 
• Solar PV cells produce direct current.
• Direct Current (DC) needs to be converted into alternating current (AC) to be used in a domestic building; this is performed by an inverter. 
• The AC electricity then passes via the generation meter, which measures how much electricity has been created, and send to the consumer unit.
• The extra energy generated is either stored in a battery bank or exported back to the national grid via the electricity meter.
