There are many techniques that are designed for the purpose of concentrating or focusing the diverged electron beam to a single point.

This can be classified into two main types that actually follow two different principles for their working, i.e.

1) Electrostatic focusing

2) Magnetostatic focusing

In electrostatic focusing, the electric field is used for the purpose of making the beam gain the shape of a sharp straight stream.

The following figure explains the working of electrostatic laws in focusing a diverged electron beam where an electron is placed in between the plates which are supplied with a potential difference:
