Question
Download Solution PDFTwo trains are moving in the opposite direction at the speed of 48 km/hr and 60 km/hr respectively. The time taken by the slower train to cross a man sitting in the faster train is 12 seconds. What is the length of the slower train?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Speed of train1 = 48 km/h
Speed of train2 = 60 km/h
Time taken to cross a man = 12 sec
Formula used:
Speed = Distance / Time
Calculation:
As the train is moving in the opposite direction,
⇒ Relative speed = Speed of train1 + speed of train2 = 48 + 60 = 108 km/h = 30 m/s
The length of train is the distance he travelled to cross the train
⇒ Speed = Distance / Time
⇒ 30 = Distance / 12
⇒ Distance = 30 × 12 = 360 m
⇒ Hence, Length of the slower train is 360 m
