If A and B alone can complete a task in X and Y days respectively, then they together will take = XY/(X + Y) days to complete the work.
Calculation:
Let's suppose, A and C together can complete the work in N days.
So, B takes = 3N days
According to the concept,
\(\frac {3N \times N}{3N + N}\) = 10 (Here, A and C are being considered a single entity)
⇒ \(\frac {3N}{4}\) = 10
⇒ 3N = 40
∴ B alone will take 40 days to complete the work.
