Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGIVEN:
Distance between two stations P and Q is 540 km.
If a train starting from P towards Q and another train starting from Q towards P meet each other in 3 hours.
Speed of the one starting from Q is 10 km / h more than that of the other train.
FORMULA USED:
Relative speed = (a + b) for opposite directions
Relative speed = (a - b) for same directions
Where a and b are speeds of train
Speed = Distance / Time
CALCULATION:
Suppose the speed of train that starts from P is v km / h.
Speed of train that starts from Q = (v + 10) km / h.
Relative speed of the trains = Distance covered / Time taken
v + (v + 10) = 540 / 3 = 180
⇒ 2v = 180 - 10 = 170
⇒ v = 85
∴ Speed of the train that starts from P = 85 km / hLast updated on Jun 2, 2025
