Download Solution PDFKabir climb up a hill at a speed of 3 miles per hour and comes down at 5 miles per hour. If total time taken for the total journey is 10 hours, then what was the distance between hill top and foothills?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven
Up speed: 3 mph, Down speed: 5 mph
Total time: 10 hours
Formula used:
Distance = Speed × times
Avergae speed = (2 × S1 × S2) / (S1 + S2)
Calculation:
Average speed
⇒ (2 × 3 × 5) / (3 + 5)
⇒ 30/8 = 15/4
So,
total distance = average speed × total time
⇒ 15/4 × 10 = 150/4 mile
Now,
Distance between hill top and foothills = (150/4) / 2 = 150/8 = 18.75 mile
∴ The correct answer is option (2).
