Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
A car covers a distance in 16 hours with uniform speed. If the speed is increased by 20 km/h, the same distance is covered in 12 hours.
Concept:
Distance = Speed × Time
Calculation:
Let the original speed of the car be x km/h.
Original distance covered in 16 hours:
⇒ Distance = x × 16 … (1)
New speed of the car = x + 20 km/h
Distance covered in 12 hours with increased speed:
⇒ Distance = (x + 20) × 12 … (2)
Since the distances are the same, equate (1) and (2):
⇒ x × 16 = (x + 20) × 12
⇒ 16x = 12x + 240
⇒ 16x - 12x = 240
⇒ 4x = 240
⇒ x = 60 km/h
Now, substitute x back into (1) to find the distance:
⇒ Distance = 60 × 16
⇒ Distance = 960 km
∴ The total distance covered by the car is 960 km.
