Veena and Karmesh were at different places in Delhi. They fixed a meeting point to meet to settle some issue. Veena started her journey at 8:00 a.m. from place A and reached place B at 4:00 p.m. and Karmesh started moving from place B 2 hours later than the time Veena started and could reach place A at 5:00 p.m. the same day, via the same route. At what time will Karmesh and Veena meet each other?

Given:

Veena started from place A at 8:00 a.m. and reached place B at 4:00 p.m.

Karmesh started from place B at 10:00 a.m. and reached place A at 5:00 p.m.

Formula Used:

Meeting time calculation using relative speed concept.

Calculation:

Veena's total travel time = 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. = 8 hours

Karmesh's total travel time = 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 a.m. = 7 hours

Let the distance between A and B be D.

Veena's speed = D / 8

Karmesh's speed = D / 7

Relative speed of Veena and Karmesh = (D/8) + (D/7)

Relative speed = \( \frac{D}{8} + \frac{D}{7} = \frac{7D + 8D}{56} = \frac{15D}{56} \)

Since, Veena started her journey at 8:00 AM and Karmesh started his journey at 10: 00 AM.

So, distance travelled by Veena in 2 hours = 2 × D/8 = D/4

Thus, Remaining distance = D - D/4 = 3D/4

Now,

Time is taken to meet after 10 PM

⇒ Remaining distance / Relative speed

(3D/4)/ (15D/56)

⇒ 3D/4 × 56/15D

⇒ 14/5 hours = 2 hours 48 minutes

So Meeting time = 10:00 a.m. + 2 hours 48 minutes = 12:48 PM

The correct answer is option (2).
